WHO WE ARE
Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County, Indiana (HFH) is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFH seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

WHAT WE DO
Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County builds houses in partnership with people in need and then sells the houses to homeowner partners. Homeowners are selected by local volunteers based on their need for housing, ability to repay a no-profit mortgage and willingness to partner with Habitat. Mortgage payments contribute to the Fund for Humanity, which in turn provides the money to build more houses. Because of Habitat’s no-profit loans and because the houses are principally built by volunteer labor, mortgage payments are affordable for low-income partners.

WHERE WE WORK
HFH serves families in Johnson County, Indiana. We gained full affiliate status in June 2006 and built its first house in July 2006. In just seven days, over 150 volunteers created a wonderful home for our first partner family. Since that time five additional homes have been built.

•In 2003 the Johnson County Builder’s Association in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Indianapolis, built two houses on Johnson Avenue in Franklin.
•In early 2005, Franklin College Habitat Club established a county-wide steering committee to explore the possibility of bringing the Habitat mission to Johnson County
•In March 2005 Franklin College donated the use of a house at 98 Edwards Street, to host the permanent office for Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County.
•In May 2005 a county-wide board of directors was established and the work of the seven major Committees began

We are pledged to the letter and spirit of U.S. policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the nation. We encourage and support an affirmative advertising and marketing program in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, or sources of income.
