Committees

Family Selection Committee

This committee shall be responsible for developing policy and procedures in the area of family selection.  This includes:

  • Help recruit new partner families
  • Meet with prospective families to explain the Habitat homeownership program and the eligibility requirements for partnering with Habitat.
  • Conduct first home visit with potential partner family
  • Recommend partner families to the Board of Directors for approval
  • Accompany Family Support member on second home visit
  • Maintain and update all documentation pertinent to the Family Selection process
  • Review Selection criteria annually
  • Committee meets once a month or as needed


Family Support Committee

The committee seeks to welcome new families into the Habitat family provides them with a mutual support system, educational opportunities and a forum for discussions regarding homeownership and relevant Habitat policies and procedures. The committee assigns an Advocate to the partner family who is the primary liaison between the affiliate and the partner families.  Functions of this committee include:

  • Assign a Family Advocate to act as a liaison between the Partner Family and Habitat
  • Develop sweat equity opportunities, and assist with scheduling and tracking sweat equity hours
  • Follow up with organizations regarding the family’s sweat equity hours
  • Develop and/or schedule educational programs for partner families
  • Support families through the construction process
  • Maintain and update all documentation pertinent to the Family Support process
  • Coordinate and assist family with home dedication
  • Review and adapt Family Support policies and educational programming annually
  • Committee meets once a month or as needed

 

Faith Relations

The Faith Relations Committee will seek to strengthen the support of the affiliate's work by gaining volunteers, prayer, and financial resources from community churches. The committee will work in partnership with churches by extending the opportunity for members to engage in ministry by becoming involved with HFHJC.  The tasks to be coordinated by this committee shall include:

  • Work to develop and nurture relationships and partnerships with area churches and faith groups
    • Work to involve area churches with upcoming Habitat builds
    • Partner with churches to offer partner families educational opportunities
    • Partner with area churches to raise awareness about Habitat
    • Cultivate relationships with area churches so HFHJC will be placed in their annual mission giving
    • Committee meets as needed


Site Selection Committee

This committee shall be responsible for developing the affiliate’s strategy and policy to ensure sufficient building sites are available to support planned building activities.  This committee will work in conjunction with the Building Committee.  Specific functions of the Site Selection Committee will include

  • Locate properties throughout the county where Habitat homes can be built by working with governmental agencies, banks, financial institutions, private homeowners, etc to secure the donation of land
  • Identify & recommend property for acquisition to the Board
  • Work with the Board to establish a process for acquiring new properties
  • Work with the construction/building committee to determine the viability of an identified site for building a new home
  • Maintain an inventory of properties for future build sites
  • Committee meets as needed

 

Construction Committee

This committee shall be responsible for planning and implementing the construction projects for the affiliate.  The tasks to be directed by this committee include:

  • Work to keep the construction costs at or under budget
  • Ensure all proper permitting is obtained
  • Coordinate donations, the purchase of materials, a schedule of professionals to assist with each build, a schedule of build day activities, and volunteer needs
  • Conduct monitoring of sites to ensure quality, safety, and stewardship
  • Update the Board on any policy changes that relate to house design, project specifications, and disbursement of resources.
  • Ensure positive, effective communication with the Family Support Advocate and partner family
  • Committee meets as needed

 

Fund Raising/Development Committee

This committee shall be responsible for coordinating the raising of funds needed to conduct business of the organization.  The tasks to be coordinated by this committee shall include:

  • Fund-raising campaigns
  • Grant proposal writing
  • Special fundraising events
  • Cultivation of major donors
  • Committee shall meet once a month or as needed

 

Finance Committee

This committee oversees the financial health of the affiliate.  Committee is comprised of HFHJC board members.

  • Makes sure expenses are paid in a timely manner
  • Oversees the preparation of the affiliates tax returns
  • Balances the bank accounts on a monthly basis
  • Handles the coordination of payroll
  • Oversees any matters pertaining to the financial stability of the affiliate
  • Reports the financial status to the Board on a monthly basis
